On 2nd April 2009 world leaders gathered at the ExCel Centre, London to address the issues currently surrounding the Financial Market and World Economy. The London Summit followed discussions initiated in Washington, November 2008, and was an opportunity for representatives from the world's major economies to formulate a plan of action, with the ultimate aim of stabilising the economy.
News Team International were commissioned by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to be host photographers for the London Summit. Photographers covered the entire of the world leaders visit to London, including the reception at Buckingham Palace, the dinner at Downing St, the Plenary Sessions at ExCel and the final press conferences at the end of the summit. The images produced by the photographers then needed to make their way to the London Summit's picture website as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Over 500 images were uploaded to the London Summit picture website using Hermstedt StingRay, for access by country delegations and media organisations around the world. The two StingRay servers were essential for uploading pictures to the site, as well as sending the pictures to the UK national press.
Both servers were also very busy receiving photos of the occasion from photographers covering events away from the ExCel centre itself. Finally the same StingRay servers had to handle picture transfers during the same period for the NTI staff in Birmingham working on other news events.
Nigel Iskander, Managing Director of News Team International said, "The ability to use two StingRay servers at the London Summit was essential to move the images of the event quick enough for the requirements of the world press organisations covering the event. Sending to special predefined groups and monitoring of the incoming and outgoing jobs proved invaluable to the team of picture editors based at ExCel. I would not hesitate to recommend StingRay and Pro2Col to others needing to move a large quantity of images to multiple destinations in a short period of time."
